Energy Conservation Bill introduced in Lok Sabha

The Energy Conservation (Amendment) Bill 2010, introduced by Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, seeks to amend the Energy Conservation Act 2001 to confer power on the BEE to specify the qualifications, criteria and conditions subject to which a person would be accredited as an energy auditor, the Statement of Objects and Reasons of the bill said.
The bill empowers the BEE to appoint its officers and staff to accredit energy auditors, a job presently being done by government officials.

It also empowers the central government to prescribe, by rules, the procedure for issue of energy saving certificate to designated consumers and the value of metric ton of oil equivalent of energy consumed.It levies additional penalty for failure to comply with the legal provisions
