The Lokayukta Special Court on Wednesday agreed to consider Sunil Bose, son of PWD Minister Dr H C Mahadevappa, as an accused in a bribery case related to  illegal sand extraction and transportation. He has been summoned to appear before the court in person on Sept 27.

It was alleged that Bose and his friend Raju had forced a geologist of the Mines and Geology department to receive a bribe of Rs 1 lakh. The case to consider Bose and Raju as accused had come before the Third Additional District and Sessions Judge S Sudhindranath.

Meanwhile, Bose had withdrawn a petition filed in the High Court, seeking a stay on Lokayukta probe against him. Judge Sudhindranath has issued an order to consider Bose as second accused and Raju as third accused in the case, besides prime accused Alphonsus, the geologist, who has since retired from service.

The Lokayukta Police had trapped Alphonsus on March 27, 2010, when he was taking a bribe from a lorry owner. He had confessed during the interrogation that he was forced to take the bribe by the duo. However, Bose’s name was dropped from the charge sheet filed by the Lokayukta. One Basavaraju of T Narasipura, Dr Mahadevappa’s Assembly constituency, had filed a petition before the court questioning this.
