Lok Sabha Member Shobha Karandlaje on Tuesday said the state government should not release Cauvery river water to Tamil Nadu.

She said all 28 MPs of the state and all the MLAs will support the government, provided the government takes a firm decision. There is no need to fear, she told reportes here.

She said if the chief minister is jailed for contempt of court, all the MPs and the MLAs will also go to jail with him. There is no question of political tactics in Cauvery river water issue, she said.

MP Karandlaje called upon the political parties to carry out a united fight when it comes to the natural resources of the state.

The true statistics on the collection of water in the reservoirs of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu and the quantity of water required for the crops must be placed before the people.

An appeal must be made to the Supreme Court to appoint a team of experts for a scientific study, she said.

She said injustice is being made to Karnataka in Cauvery issue always and it cannot be tolerated anymore. The state government is yet to understand the gravity of the situation.

When there is a shortage of drinking water in the state, Tamil Nadu is demanding water for Samba crops.

This is the heights of injustice. There is no point in Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and leader Mallikarjun Kharge demanding the prime minister’s intervention in the matter, she remarked.

Karandlaje said Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has never associated herself with the Union government. Therefore, it is doubtful that she listens to the prime minister.

The MP added that there is a need to find an amicable solution through talks, outside the court. All the MPs in the state are committed to fight for the cause of natural resources of the state, Karandlaje noted.
