Chaos marks Women's Day celebration

Inauguration interrupted by enraged participants

 The programme which was scheduled to begin at 10 am started at 11.30 am. Participants were made to stand in scorching sun from beginning till it ended.

Scarcity of chairs

Hundreds of women from various Self Help Groups had assembled to exhibit their products. But most of them were forced to stand for lack of  proper seating arrangement. The organisers failed to provide chairs even after repeated appeals by the participants. Enraged women interrupted the inauguration of programme by Taluk Panchayat Vice-President T V Jayalakshmi. They demanded that the organisers provide them chairs first and later carry on with the inauguration function.

Even though they were provided with the chairs they could not escape scorching sun as the pandal did not cover the whole  venue.

Hapzard arrangements

The exhibition and sale of products by Women SHGs drew more attention for the haphzard arrangements made by organisers. A Few groups got the stall to exhibit their products. Those who failed to get the stall exhibited their products under trees.

Taluk Panchayat President V B Udayashankar, Zilla Panchayat Member Naganal Somanna, Assistant Director H B Devaraj, City Municipal Council Vice-President V K Rajesh and Commissioner Ramadas spoke on the occasion.

‘Achieve success in all fields’

Tahsildar M S Mangala called upon women to achieve success in all fields. She was speaking at the International Women’s Day Celebration programme organised by Women and Child Welfare Department, here on Monday.

Women should make positive use of the their freedom, she said and called upon men to support women in the path of achievement. Taluk Panchayat Vice-President T V Jayalakshmi inaugurated the programme.  President V B Udayashankar, Zilla Panchayat member Naganal Somanna, Assistant Director H B Devaraj, CMC Vice-President V K Rajesh and Commissioner Ramdas spoke on the occasion. Child Welfare Project Officer Lakshmidevamma was present.

Members of about 20 Women Self Help Group exhibited their products. The stalls will be open till March 10.
