The Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) has just gone smart with the launch of a mobile app, BLR Airport. You can now track flight information and real-time flight status from your smartphone or navigate through the airport with Google Indoor Maps.

For Android users, the app also offers one-touch WiFi connect. No repeat input of OTP and user-details are required. The details once shared as a first time user will connect a passenger to the WiFi automatically once he or she is in the airport.

The mobile app, available on both Android and iOS platforms, could also be used to experience the airport retail and F&B offerings. Contextual notifications based on the passenger’s location are also included. Besides, the users can share their feedback on the airport experience. ThoughtWorks, the digital partner of Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), conducted a detailed study of 14 leading airport apps to ascertain the most powerful features for the ‘BLR Airport’ app.

The key features of the app, a BIAL release said, is aimed at giving travellers an ‘airport in their pocket’ experience. “The app’s underlying design principle is maintaining an easily navigable user journey through intuitive design and is based on the airport’s philosophy of providing its customers a ‘Naturally, Easy Experience’.”

The app launch is part of BIAL’s move to make KIA a digitized, seamlessly connected and intuitive airport that is positioned as the ‘Gateway to South India’.

In June 2016, the BIAL had introduced a Twitter hashtag #Flightstatus, an automated notification feature, that allows passengers to receive flight status on their social channel.
