Betting on Pune races to resume

Last Updated 24 September 2016, 19:29 IST

The off-course betting at the Bangalore Turf Club (BTC) on Pune races will resume on Sunday with the Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC) deciding to beam signals of the races to BTC.

A dispute over royalty had led to the RWITC stopping signals of the Pune races from being beamed to BTC, halting off-course betting here.

The RWITC had demanded an audit of BTC’s accounts with regards to the betting collections, claiming they are bound to receive more royalty than the current amount of Rs 2.50 crore given by the BTC. BTC had rejected RWITC’s demands.

BTC sources said that at a meeting in Pune, RWITC chairman Vivek Jain agreed to beam signals to BTC after discussing the issue with his Bengaluru counterpart Satish Chandra.

In return, the BTC, along with the Mysore Race Club, who had stopped beaming signals to Pune, will resume sending signals of races held at their clubs to Pune, the sources added. A final resolution of the issue, it is learnt, is yet to be reached. Meanwhile, the Hyderabad races scheduled on Sunday and Monday have been cancelled due to poor underfoot conditions.
