When Bollywood dazzled the ramp

Veteran actors Sharmila Tagore and Zeenat Aman, along with ‘Rustom’ actor Esha Gupta, ‘Fashion’ star Mugdha Godse and Iranian beauty Mandana Karimi, dazzled the ramp at the recently-concluded India Runway Week.

However, Soha Ali Khan, who was supposed to walk as the showstopper for designer Shweta Sarda, chose to skip the show as it was delayed.

The three-day event opened with the designs of Bibi Russell. Her collection ‘Rajasthali’, inspired by textiles of Rajasthan, made from handspun and hand-woven fabric, stole the limelight.

Daniel Syiem, Isha Gupta Tayal, Gaurav and Nitesh, Rakam, Aditya Khandelwl and Varija Bajaj were among the other designers who showcased their collection on the opening day.

The highlight of day two was Esha, who turned showstopper for designer Yoshita Yadav whose collection was inspired by the monuments in Lucknow. College students also walked the ramp in the designs of students from Apeejay Institute of Design. Yasmeen Mehra presented her winter/festive collection ‘Erubescent’ — The Blooming Flower.  The day also saw a modern interpretation of Indian classical silhouettes blended with traditional motifs and embellishments like crystals, pearls, zardosi and patch work, showcased by Magiska by Shalini.

The closing day saw Sharmila Tagore and Zeenat Aman, walking for designer Rohini Gugnani and jewellery designer Akassh K Aggarwal, respectively. Gugnani’s collection was inspired by the Awadh era.

The concept was derived from the cities of Kanpur, Lucknow, Faizabad which redefine the glory of Awadh period in the present time. Whereas, ‘The Muse Room’ by Aggarwal came with a message of celebrating women of all ages.

The collection was apt for all women; starting from a teenager to a lady in her 90s. Other designers like Shilpa Chourasia, Sana Khan, Varun and Vidushi, Preethi Fazel, Megha Mahendru, Riddhi and Siddhi and Vinay Rana also showcased their designs.
