Minister moots 'Hall of Fame' for veteran politicans

The minister mooted this idea at the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday, in his reply to a call attention from Congress MLA from Bagepalli, N Sampangi.

Sampangi questioned why there was no place for the first Chief Minister of the Old Mysore State  K C Reddy at the Vidhana Soudha. He demanded that a bust of K C Reddy be installed inside the Vidhana Soudha to honour Reddy.

Suresh Kumar in his reply stated that there was a High Court order from December 1999 banning statues in and around the Vidhana Souda. “There is a ban and if the house agrees we can appeal at the High Court. But more importantly we need to re-examine the extent to which the culture of installation of statues can be continued,” he said.

Kumar gave the example of London where eminent leaders and personalities from various fields were honoured with a portrait at a Hall of Fame. “Besides birthdays and anniversaries, these statues remain unattended for most of the year except for crows and pigeons who pay daily homage. Instead, our very own Hall of Fame would be a fitting way of honouring all great personalities of our State,” Kumar said.
