Burglars cut a hole into the rooftop of a financing company’s office in Chikkamagaluru, entered the strongroom and stole gold valuables and cash, all valued at Rs 4.77 crore.

The burglary occurred at the Manappuram Finance outlet on Mallandur Road between Saturday evening and Sunday.

The burglars made away with 13.149 kg of gold valuables worth Rs 3.96 crore and Rs 81.14 lakh in cash.

They had created the hole with a gas cutter, police said.

The incident came to light around 6.30 pm on Sunday when neighbouring shopkeepers called up the outlet’s manager, Madhusudhan.

The stolen articles belonged to customers who had pledged them for loans, he told the police.

Senior police officers visited the spot.
