K'taka bags award for elders' welfare

Karnataka has bagged the national award under the category 'Best state in implementing the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007, and providing services and facilities to senior citizens.

The award will be presented by President Pranab Mukherjee at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on October 1. According to a press statement issued by the office of Kannada and Culture Minister Umashree, Karnataka has bagged this award for effectively reaching government programmes to senior citizens.

According to the release, the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (Nimhans), and Gandhian Ho Srinivasaiah too have been selected for the President's award.
