Youth commits suicide after friend dies in accident

Unable to bear the guilt of the death of a childhood friend riding pillion with him, a 28-year-old man committed suicide by coming under a speeding train here on Tuesday night.

According to police, a speeding truck hit the motorcycle on which friends Ghanta Hari Krishna, a software engineer, and  K Ramesh were riding near Moosapet in the wee hours of Tuesday. Hari Krishna died on the spot. The CCTV footage released by the police showed Ramesh, wearing a white helmet, recovering from the impact and checking on his friend with no protection for his head, who seemed to be fatally wounded.

Some bystanders called an ambulance and Ramesh took his friend to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Ramesh, who could not overcome the shock, walked into Bharat Nagar Railway station, and committed suicide. Eye witnesses from a nearby slum said that they saw a young man suddenly appearing from nowhere and jumping in front of the train, in spite of the engine driver repeatedly blowing the horn. His body was later recovered by the police.

The dead duo, both in their 20s, hailed from Vepakampalli of Karampudi Mandal of Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh and had been living together in Venkateswara boys hostel in Kukatpally. According to their relatives,
