Varsity-level students' literary conference tomorrow

Rajesh Padmar, the President of the Association, stated in a release on Thursday that the literary conference for the undergraduate and post-graduate students of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Kodagu and Kasargod districts, is being held for the past six years.

Renowned litterateur, Kannada Book Authority Chairman Dr Siddhalingaiah will inaugurate the conference at 10 am, while Gopalakrishna Pai, a novelist and the author of the much appreciated novel ‘Swapna Saraswatha’ will preside. Mangalore University Registrar (Administration) Prof K Chinnappa Gowda and the Principal of SDM Business Management College Dr Devaraj K will be   the chief guests, the release said.

Three different student-centred sessions will be held during the conference which will be moderated by the experts in the field. In the paper presentation session, two select students will speak on ‘Jagathika Havamana Badalavane mattu Bhoomiya Bhavishya’ (Global climate change and the future of the Earth) and ‘Karavaliya Annada Battala Mele Aaturada Kaigarikikarana’ (Hasty industrialisation on the rice bowl of the coastal belt). Manipal Institute of Communication Director Varadesh Hiregange will chair the session.

There will be sessions for humour and poetry in the afternoon. Three select students will present their prize-winning humour articles in the session, which will be moderated by renowned humourist Bhuvaneshwari Hegde. In the poets’ meet, 10 young poets will present their poems. Poet Dr Nagaveni Manchi will chair the session.

Educationist Dr Mahabaleshwar Rao will deliver the valedictory address at 4 pm. He will also give away prizes to those students who have won the competitions conducted earlier.
