<p>A few days ago, his name figured in the list of accused persons in the murder of Rajashekar who was hacked to death in Chamarajpet.<br /><br />“The CCB have framed my husband and along with him, three more of our family members have been falsely implicated,” cries Kumudha, Pushparaj’s wife.<br /><br />“For the last 17 years, my husband has not been involved in any activities and no case is registered in any of the police stations in the City or State. We have been leading a peaceful life. Out of the blue, police picked up my husband, brother-in-law Srinivas, his sister’s son Naveen and driver Shanmugam. They demanded Rs two lakh from Srinivas and when he refused to pay, he was beaten up mercilessly and sent to jail,” she says.<br /><br />Allegedly tortured<br /><br />Way back in 1998, Pushparaj was whisked away and allegedly tortured by the Kengeri police, now Cottonpet. <br /><br />With multiple fractures, he was down for months. Later, the National Human Rights Commission despatched an investigation team headed by Deputy Superintendent of Police which found that Pushparaj was illegally detained and tortured. <br />A compensation of Rs 10,000 was awarded to him. <br /><br />Pushparaj had filed a complaint before the III ACCM court. The case is yet to see the light of the day. <br /><br />“Police have been pressuring my husband to withdraw the case against them. When he refused, they decided to take revenge,” Kumudha claims.<br /><br />The two sisters-in-law, Kumudha and Srinivas’ wife Sunitha are fighting the battle for their husbands’ freedom.<br /><br />When asked about the women’s claims, a senior CCB officer said: “We have taken them into custody and are investigating the case. It is not wise to comment at this stage.”</p>
