In reply to a call attention of H S Mahadev Prasad (Congress) in the Legislative Assembly on Friday, Minister Basavaraj Bommai, who read out a written statement on behalf of the CM said the de-reserved area for mining in Mysore district is 813.26 sq km in block 22. The area that comes under Bolegowdana Katte is just 11 sq km. Mining will not be permitted in the Tiger Reserve of the Katte, he said.

Earlier, Mahadev Prasad said the Government while deciding to allow mining in six areas, has also included a part of the tiger reserve in Bandipur.

The residents of 20 to 30 villages in Bolegowdana Katte are living under fear that they may have to vacate once the mining activities begin. The Government at any cost should not allow mining in the Tiger Reserve as that would adversely affect flora and fauna, he said.
The minister said it has also been decided to exclude the places in Western Ghats which were earlier notified for mining. The State Cabinet while deciding to allow mining, had made it clear that the permits are subject to certain conditions.
