On the first day of the winter session of the legislature that began on Monday, Legislative Council Chairman D H Shankarmurthy took the government to task over the poor coordination among government departments.

During the Question Hour, Mahantesh Kavatagimath (BJP) pointed to the delay in establishing the IT Park at Belagavi. He said the project had not been implemented and he has been drawing attention of the government during every session of legislature held in Belagavi.

The government sought time for providing its reply to Kavatagimath’s query stating that the question had been referred to the department of Industries for getting information. The government’s reply invited the wrath of the Chairman as the question that was posed to IT and BT minister Priyank Kharge was transfered to another department.

Criticising the government, Shankaramurthy said, “The officials are behaving as if they are in different countries. The department officer had also written to me highlighting that the response needs to be provided by the department of Industries.”

Taking a dig at the approach of the departments and lack of coordination, he said “commitment to the cause is lacking among officials”. Former IT and BT minister S R Patil (Congress) said it was the duty of the minister concerned to provide information.Taking advantage of Patil’s statement, Leader of the Opposition K S Eshwarappa tried to corner the government over not providing the information sought by the member.

Meanwhile, Kharge clarified that the IT Park was coming up on an industrial land and thus the matter had been transferred to the Department of Industries. Subsequently, the government said that the information would be provided in a week’s time.
