Even as the markets in Mumbai are selling wallets with images of scrapped Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes, a Bengaluru-based online bakery is rolling-out freshly baked Rs 2,000 and Rs 500 note-themed cakes.

Gautam Balijepalli, one of the co-founders of WarmOven that runs its own bakery in the city, said they started making the note-themed cakes following demonetisation, with the objective of making people familiar with the new bank notes.

“Not many have laid their hands yet on the pink note, owing to rush at banks, post offices and ATMs. Hence, we thought of introducing these cakes with edible notes of Rs 500 and Rs 2,000. The note, resembling features of the original note, was produced with the help of a team of baking experts. So, apart from relishing the cake available in different flavours, one can have a closer look at it,” Gautam, an alumnus of IIT Madras, said.

A staffer of the bakery said that they are getting steady queries and orders every day. They added that they deliver the bank note cakes within three hours of the order.

“The currency-themed cakes are a hit and we introduced this a couple of days after demonetisation was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 8. There is an equal demand for the Rs 500 note-themed cake,” added Gautam.
