Procession adds colour to literary meet

The procession began from Bunts Hostel premises and passed through Jyothi Circle, Kota Shivaram Karanth road and U P Mallya road before reaching Town Hall.  Hundreds of students clad in their respective school uniform participated with enthusiasm in the event that began at around 3.30 pm from Bunts Hostel premises.

Students from various schools and colleges were carrying Kannada flags throughout the procession and shouting slogans in favour of Kannada. The Kalladka dolls were seen dancing to the tunes of music along with the Yakshagana vesha of Mahishasura and Raja vesha. Students carrying colourful umbrellas also marked the procession.

The school band, the traditional chande were part of the procession. It was a rare opportunity for the students to carry traditional palanquins. About 13 palanquins along with 16 books including ‘Dharmarayana Samsara’ by Kota Shivaram Karanth, ‘Yakshagana bayalata’ by Kota Shivarama Karanth, ‘Srimad Bhagavadgeetha Thatparya’ by DVG, ‘Sri Ramashwamedha’ by Muddanna Kavi, ‘Sampoorna Ramayana’ by Ananthanarayana and others were carried in the procession.

The Bhuvaneshwari was carried in a decorated vehicle. Another decorated vehicle carried Sammelana President Padekallu Narasimha Bhat, along with Mayor Rajani Dugganna and District Kannada Sahithya Parishat President Pradeep Kumar Kalkura. People had gathered on either side of the road to witness the mega event.

The procession was inaugurated by Zilla Panchayat President Santhosh Kumar Bhandary. Lakshminarayana Asranna lighted the lamp. Mangalore Diocese Youth wing President Rev Fr Anil D’Souza, Bantara Yane Nadavara MathrSangha President Amarnath Shetty, Kannada Sahitya Parishad former president Hariskrishna Punaroor, MLA U T Khader and others were present.

Flag hoist

Earlier in the morning, the sahithya sammelan was flagged off by District-in-Charge Minister Krishna Palemar hoisting the national flag while District Kannada Sahithya Parishat President Pradeep Kumar Kalkura hoisted Kannada flag and Mayor Rajani Dugganna hoisted Sammelana flag in front of Town Hall.

Students of Canara Girls High-school, Dogarkere sang national anthem, state anthem ‘Jai Bharatha Jananiya Thanujathe’ and farmers’ song ‘Uluva Yogiya Nodalli’ on the occasion. MLAs Yogish Bhat, U T Khader, MCC Commissioner Dr Vijayaprakash, Additional DC Prabhakar Sharma and others were present.
