61 RS members give impeachment notice

As many as 61 members have given notice to the Rajya Sabha Secretariat to initiate impeachment proceedings against Justice C V Nagarjuna Reddy of the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh High Court for reportedly misbehaving with a Dalit judge.

The members have also cited allegations of Justice Reddy having assets disproportionate to his known sources of income, which he had not declared to the Chief Justice at the time of his appointment.

The signatories include CPM’s Sitaram Yechury, D Raja of CPI, JD(U) leader Sharad Yadav, Congress leaders Digvijay Singh and Oscar Fernandes, BJD’s Anubhav Mohanty and Naresh Gujral of SAD, among others. According to the complaint, Justice Reddy forced Rama Krishna, principal junior civil judge in Kadappa district, to delete the name of Pavan Kumar Reddy from a dying declaration recorded by him when he was posted as a magistrate. Incidentally, Pavan is the brother of Justice Reddy.
