New lease of life for Chennaiah park

Bus terminal

Elaborating on the projects that will be undertaken, Khan said: “A bus terminal will be built where the tourist bungalow is presently located. Works will also soon begin for the construction of district complexes.”

He added that there were many other projects that were in progress and the “inauguration of this park will mark the beginning of a series of inaugurations”.

Funds released

Legislator K P Bachegowda informed that Rs 20 lakh was sanctioned from the MLA funds for the development of the park. He advised the caretakers of the park to install dustbins on all four corners of the park and keep  the park open from 5 in the morning to 10 in the night.

City Municipal Council (CMC) president M Prakash credited all the officials and elected representatives for the successful development of the park. “The initial plan was to only develop the existing park. But due to the interest shown by the minister and the legislator, we were able to add a fountain in the middle,” he said.

The CMC chief announced that a mutton market will be set up at the cost of Rs one crore  in the present marketplace and  the marketplace itself will be developed at the cost of Rs 1.5 crore. Deputy Commissioner Anwar Pasha informed that there were plans to build another ten parks.

Ramachandra, Krishna, Srinivas and judges Harikumar and P Subramani who were instrumental in saving the park, which was to be converted into a bus terminal, were felicitated at the event.

District SP Ravindra Prasad, ZP CEO N Krishnappa, Tahsildhar Poornima, CMC members Nirmalaprabhu, Gayatri Raghu, Jayamma, Nandini and Byregowda were present.
