The Nandini Layout police have arrested a gang of seven people, including a history-sheeter for robbing a businessman of cash, on the pretext of exchanging demonetised currency notes for commission.

The police have recovered Rs 6.60 lakh in cash from them. Srinath, a history-sheeter, Chetan, Thyagaraju, Sagar, Girish, Mani Bharath and Rohith are the arrested.

“Pradip, a resident of KR Puram was into construction and catering business. He met Rohith through a common friend. Pradip overheard Rohith talking to his friends about exchanging demonetised currency notes. He offered Rohith to arrange new notes for a commission.

On December 15, Pradip called up Rohith and said he had arranged Rs 6.60 lakh in new notes and asked him to look for a “customer.” After a few hours, Rohith told Pradip that he has a customer and would exchange the money for 15 % commission.

As per the plan, they met around 6 pm near Jalahalli and both went to Peenya. Rohith told Pradip that a customer was waiting near BDA guesthouse in Nandini Layout and took him there. As they reached the place, a group of people robbed Pradip at knife point,” police added.

However, Pradip lodged a complaint saying that the cash was meant for purchasing a plot and he was robbed by unknown persons.

“But he confessed to his involvement in the money-exchange business. Based on the information provided by him, we made the arrests,” a senior police  officer said. Srinath was released from Parapanna Agrahara Central prison 15 days ago.
