Sudeep is an actor, director, producer, screenwriter and television presenter — all wrapped in one. He is best known for his impressive work in films like ‘Huchcha’, ‘Kiccha’, ‘Mussanjemaatu’ , ‘Veera Madakari’, ‘Just Maath Maathalli’and ‘Kempe Gowda’.

.

Sudeep’s Telugu-Tamil bilingual film ‘Eega’ stood out for the way he portrayed his character. He has been hosting the Kannada version of reality show ‘Bigg Boss’. He won the Karnataka State Film Award for ‘Best Actor’ for ‘Nandhi’. He made his debut in Bollywood with ‘Phoonk’ and followed it up with other projects such as ‘Rann’, ‘Phoonk 2’ and ‘Rakta Charitra’. He is presently working on a couple of projects in Kannada, Telugu and Bollywood.

Music
Kishore Kumar

“I can listen to anything that mellows me down and I don’t stick to a particular genre. But if I have to pick someone, then it has to be Kishore Kumar. He is my favourite musician and although I don’t belong to his era, his work still lives on and continues to be popular. I always admired his attitude whenever he sang and he rendered every piece to perfection. His voice was such that it suited just about any genre. I always pick music that is soothing and I don’t relate to anything that is too loud. I find peace and a sense of calm even in silence.”

Inspiration
M Sanjeev

“I would say that my parents have been my strength and not my inspiration. My father M Sanjeev worked very hard for whatever he has achieved today and was always there for me, letting me know that I can achieve whatever I wanted to. My mother Saroja believed that there was nothing that I couldn’t achieve. Cinema has been my inspiration. I used to observe what cinema does to people. Cinema has always been the most beautiful thing in my life. I set out to be a director and not an actor. My becoming an actor is purely accidental.”

Travel
Bangkok

“I like to head out to Bangkok whenever I get the chance because I think that there’s just so much of life in that place. There are some small but fabulous eateries on the wayside that serve delicious food. I also like to walk around and look at small shops that sell innovative gadgets made by ordinary people. The ethos and culture of the city is such that it pushes you to walk and prods you to explore. I also enjoy travelling by the ‘tuk tuks’, local transport in Bangkok, whenever I am there. I
believe that every travel must leave me rejuvenated and I find relaxation in doing anything that leaves me rejuvenated.”

Cinema
Vishnuvardhan

“My favourite actor was Vishnuvardhan. In my younger days, I was charmed by the aura of Vishnuvardhan. When you are ten or 15 years old, you can’t really define a good performer but with the passage of time, I realised that he was indeed a brilliant performer and a good human being. I have always tried to deliver my best performance as an actor but I think ‘Eega’ managed to get the best out of me. The credit for it goes to S S Rajamouli.”

Cuisine
Salad

“I am not fussy when it comes to food and I don’t have any special preferences. I order anything that looks good on the menu. I am always drawn to salads and anything that has pieces of roasted chicken catches my attention. Steamed vegetables is another favourite. I love to dig into a delicious-looking cake or snack on biscuits.”

(As told to Nina C George)
