Legislative Assembly Speaker K B Koliwad on Sunday urged the Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan to convene a special meeting of the presiding officers of all the state legislatures.
Official sources in the state legislature said that Koliwad told Sumitra that there is a need to chalk out a plan for ensuring effective functioning of the legislature.
Elected representatives are interested in only publicity and not debate. The legislature is losing its importance of late. Appropriate measures should be taken to restore dignity of the legislature, he is said to have told her.
Koliwad urged the Lok Sabha Speaker to organise the conference in Bengaluru. Sumitra was in Bengaluru on Sunday to attend Adamya Chetana Seva Utsav-2017.
