'It's always nice to surprise people'

Last Updated 03 January 2017, 18:33 IST

Actor Suraj Gowda is all excited about 2017. With a couple of projects just about to wrap up, the young artiste has his fingers crossed and is all geared up to rule the industry. In a chat with Tini Sara Anien, the actor talks about his hopes for the year ahead.

How does the new year look for you?

The year looks amazing, just like 2016 did. I have always believed that every year is my year. I am looking forward to things positively and with a dash of optimism. Though its just another day, I hope for big things.

Any resolutions?
I don’t believe in resolutions but I strongly believe in goals. I know that I have to work so much and that I need to have so many releases this year. I also don’t believe in resolutions because I believe that I’m good enough and nothing really needs to change about my characteristics.

The projects for this year include...
We are almost done with the shoot of ‘Siliconn City’ that is being directed by Murali Gurappa. We are planning for a March release. I’m very excited about the movie as I know I have put a lot into the project. I’m very interested to see how it fares. I will also resume shoot of ‘Pradesha Samachara’ after ‘Siliconn  City’ is done.

A bit about ‘Siliconn City’...
The movie is a crime-based-family entertainer. It is a thriller and is about two brothers — the elder one played by Srinagara Kitty and the younger one is me. I’m playing a 19-year-old in the movie. I portray different shades in the movie and I am really excited.

What makes this character so special?
All I can say is that it is nothing like one could ever imagine. This role is not something people expect of me. Though I played a lover boy in my first movie, I want to do all sorts of roles. No one will call me a chocolate boy after watching ‘Siliconn City’ and that is exactly what I want. I want to give variety and I don’t want people to expect anything particular from me. It’s always nice to surprise people. I want a project to be a commercial success too and not just a critical hit all the time.

Do you sport a different look for the project?
Yes, I look very different. I am carrying my curly hair look for this project. I’m trying to look as boy-next-door as possible. I lost a lot of weight for the movie to look like a normal teenager.

Any challenges you faced...
I want people to believe the character I play and that itself is a challenge. But, challenges are fun in the field of art. Doing the same things make no sense. The movie is not what any actor would do, so early in his career. The decisions my character Karthik takes in the movie will be questionable. He will be someone who will linger in your thoughts, even when you walk out of the theatres.
