JOIN USAcademy President M B Abdul Rahman told reporters here on Friday that the awards will be conferred on litterateur Janab Ahammed Noori of Bangalore, multi-lingual expert Maulana Abdul Hasan Muhammed Maulvi and Beary folk artiste Ismail Usthad Suribail. The award, which carries a purse of Rs 10,000, a citation and memento, will be presented on March 31 at Town Hall in Mangalore.
Janab Ahammed Noori, over the past 50 years, has become household name in Beary community due to his popular songs and music composition. Some of his popular songs are ‘Kelanda Makkale kelanda,’ ‘Ethare Tholo Varakro Masth,’ ‘Alam padachadum neenem, adre chameychedum neeneme.’ He is well-versed in Kannada, Arabic, Persian, Malayalam, Tamil, Urdu, Hindi, English and Beary languages. He has translated Quran to Kannada and Fr Mullers’ ‘The Guide to Health’ to Urdu.
Abdul Hasan Muhammed Maulvi, the Director of Beary Information Centre and Arabic Institute, was the first one to write ‘Muthumale’ in Beary language. His other works are ‘Khabr Zuyarath,’ ‘Baratha rathri.’ He has also translated ‘Juma Khuthuba,’ ‘Ayyuhalvalad,’ ‘Mukhashifathulu’ to Kannada.
He also served as the editor of a Kannada weekly ‘Mesco varthe.’ Ismail Ustad Suribail, is expert in Beary folk art form, ‘Duff’, in which he has trained more than 900 students so far. He was recently felicitated at Beary Janapada Utsav.
