Ease of Doing Business: govt to take external agencies' help

The government has invited bids for external agencies who can turn India’s business environment  around, and help improve the World Bank ranking of its Ease of Doing Business from the current 130.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sought to bring the country amongst top 50 countries in the World Bank ranking by next year. But the World Bank, in its Doing Business Report (DB), 2017, had ranked India at 130 out of 190 countries. This was a notch below the last year’s ranking which was revised at 131.

Prime Minister Modi had earlier asked top officials at the Centre and states to study the report and analyse areas where there was scope for improvement.

On Wednesday, the Union Commerce Ministry had said that it proposed to engage a reputed consultancy organisation to assist in improving the business climate in the country by ensuring effective and on-the-ground reform implementation on the 10 indicators.
