Bird-watching, music, games to be top attractions at lake festival

The 'Kaikondrahalli Lake Festival' on Sunday will give you a chance to spend your weekend by a lake and soak in nature by watching birds.

The third edition of the annual festival themed on 'Nature and Lakes' aims to be bigger and better this time with an array of activities being planned by Mahadevpura Parisara Samrakshane Mattu Abhivrudhi Samiti (MAPSAS), a community-oriented non-profit trust.

From bird walks, spider walks, flower rangoli activities, an environment-themed quiz to musical programmes, the options are plenty for participants.

"The objective of the festival is to create awareness, increase community participation and foster an appreciation of lakes in Bengaluru among citizens. We expect a crowd of not less than 5,000 and people from all walks of life can take part," said  MAPSAS trustee, Shilpi Sahu.

For the artistically inclined, there is a photography workshop and a drawing workshop themed around nature by illustrator Archana Sreenivasan.

A session on writing on nature  will help one observe, wonder and describe what one sees.
The highlight of the programme is ‘Songs by the water’ wherein folk singer Padma Shri Prahlad Singh Tipaniya will present Kabir Bhajans and other songs related to nature between 4 pm and 6 pm on Sunday.

Sahu said the response to the lake festival held last January was overwhelming and this time, too, they expect an encouraging response.

The festival is open from 7 am to 6 pm and there is no entry fee. For details, people can visit the page ‘Kaikondrahalli Lake’ and ‘Kere Habba 2017’ on Facebook.
