Acting on the advise of an astrologer three years ago, he allegedly killed his son and hushed up the matter, but failed to get any treasure.  He barely knew what was in store for him when he accompanied a few persons on BBMP campaign. The police, who had been tipped off about his movements, picked him up at Krishnaianapalya on Thursday night. The suspect was identified Lakshman Reddy (35) of Shaubhoganahalli in Kolar district, said Byapanahalli police.

Reddy was a sand truck driver and stayed with his wife at Shaubhoganahalli. Three years ago, he hacked his son to get the hidden treasure. Reddy always dreamt of becoming rich overnight. Recently, he met an astrologer who predicted that if Reddy sacrificed his children he would get the hidden treasure, added the police.

Reddy took his children Narasimha Murthy (6) and Nandini (3) to a eucalyptus grove at Nayakarahalli in Kolar district on March 10. He hacked them with a lethal weapon and fled. Reddy’s wife, a construction worker, grew suspicious when her husband and children failed to return. She lodged a complaint with the Kolar rural police. A team was constituted to nab him and the team members alerted the Byapanahalli police about his possible movements in Byapanahalli.

“Reddy is not suffering from any psychological disorder. He is normal, but has a craving to accumulate wealth. The case was transferred to the Kolar rural police for further investigation,” the police said.
