The two-day “Karnataka Bird Festival” began at Nisarga Dhama close to the Kannada University here on Friday. More than 300 enthusiasts including ornithologists, wildlife photographers and researchers are taking part in the event.

On the first day, the participants, divided into eight groups, were taken on a guided tour of Hampi, bear sanctuary at Daroji, Vijaya Vittala Temple, Kannada University and other places where they were allowed to watch and photograph birds for more than two hours.

Earlier, speaking at the inaugural function, Karnataka Ecotourism Development Board chairman Vinay Luthra said that a proposal had been submitted to the government seeking permission for trekking at all the ecotourism spots in the state.  A brochure on Daroji bear sanctuary was released on the occasion.
