Kushalnagar decked up for Sahitya Sammelana

Kodava dictionary to be released in literary carnival

Kushalnagar, a town abutting river Cauvery in Somwarpet taluk, is being decked up for Kodagu Zilla Sahitya Sammelana.

The literary meet will be held in the town on January 10 and 11, .

Briefing reporters on the preparations of the Sammelana here, Zilla Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Lokesh Sagar said writer S C Rajashekhar will be president of the 11th annual literary meet and it will be held at Raitha Sahakara Bhavan.

The auditorium has been named after former chief minister R Gundurao (as Rao hailed from Kushalnagar). The main dais is  named after Edurkula Shankarnarayan Bhat. The arch gate will be named after of V S Ramakrishna, he said.

Colourful procession

The literary meet will be inaugurated with a melange of events planned from 8 am on January 10. Tahsildar G S Krishna will hoist the national flag.  President of Kushalnagar Town Panchayat M M Charan will unfurl the Kannada flag.

The Sammelana president will be brought to the venue in a colourful procession amid fanfare. The procession will start from Cauvery Mantapa on Mysuru Road at 9 am. Deputy Commissioner Richard Vincent D’Souza will flag off the procession.

Additional Deputy Commissioner M Sathish Kumar and others are expected to participate. A 600-foot-long Kannada flag will be the highlight of the procession. Around 3,000 people, apart from 20 cultural troupes, will take part in the procession.

The Sammelana will be declared open in the presence of District In-charge Minister M R Seetharam, legislators M P Appachu Ranjan and K G Bopaiah, Veena Achaiah and M P Suneel Subramani, said the president.

Dictionary release

‘Kodava Arivole’ (dictionary) will be released in afternoon session. ‘Nataka Sahitya’ of Sridhar Hegde, ‘Himanadiya Pisumathu’ of K K Suneetha, ‘Kodagina Ithihaasa’ of H S Sundar, ‘Kappu Hudugi’ of Sangeetha Raviraj and ‘Manadangalada Mandara’ of Sharmila H S Sundar will also be released.

A women’s  meet will presided over by member of Kannada Vigilance Committee Revathi Poovaiah. Journalist-turned-politician (MP) Prathap Simha will preside over a media meet.

Cultural programmes will be organised in the evening. 

Children’s meet

A children’s poets’ meet will be held at 10 am the next day. An interaction programme will be held later.

Narendra Parekatte, editor of ‘Balamangala’ children’s magazine, will preside over the session. An academic meet in the afternoon will be presided over by Madanda S Poovaiah. The main poets’ meet will be presided over by Nallur Prasad.

Parishat’s honorary secretary Subhash Nanaiah will table the resolutions in the open meet in the evening.

Valedictory session

Vishweshwara Swami of Somwarpet Virakta Mutt will grace the valedictory session.
Renowned writer and film director Nagathihalli Chandrashekar will deliver the valedictory address. As many as 21 achievers from different fields will be felicitated, said the president.
