District Congress Committee president Dr D L Vijaya Kumar said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has only favoured big businessmen like Adanis and Ambanis.

The government has neglected a majority of people through demonetisation of high value currency notes. In the process, the economy of the country has collapsed, he charged.

Addressing Congress workers who staged a protest against demonetisation here on Saturday, he said most of the people are not able to get the cash they need even 50 days after the demonetisation move was announced.

Kumar said the prime minister has taken the demonetisation move in haste. It has affected a vast number of people, he fumed and demanded the government to bring out a white paper on demonetisation.

MLC Gayathri Shanthegowda said a large number of people continue to suffer as either they are not able to draw money or they are not able to get change.

The demands of the Congress include withdrawal of limit on withdrawal of money in banks; payment of 18% interests to customers; cancellation of fee on digital transactions; payment of Rs 20,000 to a woman in every BPL family who suffered due to demonetisation; doubling of wages for a minimum period of one year under MGNREGS; special drive to identify those who could not get jobs after November 8 and payment to such people up to March 31; 50% concession on income tax and sales tax to small traders and the Centre should pay to states the loss incurred due to demonetisation move.
