Woman fakes suicide, pays with her life

A woman who faked suicide attempt to threaten her husband eventually paid with her life at her house in Doddabidarakallu on Friday night.

The deceased has been identified as Gayathri (32), wife of Rayanna. The couple have two children. According to police, the husband and wife fought frequently over petty issues and Gayathri used to threaten her husband saying she would commit suicide. On Friday night too, the couple quarrelled and Gayathri went to her bedroom to “hang” herself from the ceiling. Standing on a chair, she tied the noose around her neck and fastened the other end of the rope to the ceiling. However, she accidentally slipped from the chair and the noose tightened around her neck, killing her.

Rayanna didn’t take the threat seriously as it had become routine. After a while, he went to the room for a check, when Gayathri was found dead. He alerted the Peenya police who shifted the body for post-mortem.

In another incident, a 32-year-old woman committed suicide by consuming poison in her house in Rangappa Layout in Peenya. The deceased has been identified as Anasuya. She was married to Siddaraju, a cab driver, five years ago and the couple have two children.

Anasuya used to fight with Siddaraju over his extramarital affair and the latter used to stay with another woman, Lakshmi (name changed). On Friday, Anasuya took her children to Lakshmi’s house and picked a quarrel with Siddaraju. In the melee, Siddaraju and Lakshmi thrashed Anasuya who fell on the ground and lost consciousness. Anasuya’s children informed their relatives who shifted Lakshmi to a private hospital. But Lakshmi did not respond to treatment and died at the hospital, police said.

Doctors said that Anasuya had consumed poison. During investigation, it was learnt that Anasuya had carried a poison bottle and when Siddaraju and Lakshmi attacked her, she consumed the poison. However, police are also investigating if Siddaraju and Lakshmi forced Anasuya to consume poison. The police have launched a search to trace the two who are now absconding.
