Private doctors in Uttara Kannada district suspended their services for three hours on Saturday as a mark of protest against the assault on a doctor by Lok Sabha member Anant Kumar Hegde.

The police on Thursday night registered a suo motu case against Hegde and BJP district unit secretary Krishna Esale on the charge of assaulting orthopaedician Dr Madhukeshwar earlier this week.

Addressing a press meet, IMA district unit president Dr Suresh Bhat said that Hegde, being a public representative, should not have assaulted a medical professional. He said that Hegde should be immediately arrested.
