Another woman harassed, attackers try to pull her top

The number of molestation cases opened by police in the first week of January has reached nine.

A 22-year-old woman was allegedly molested by two bike-borne men on a service road at HRBR Layout, Kalyan Nagar 1st Block, around 9 pm on Wednesday. She was walking home from a gym when the men waylaid her and tried to pull her T-shirt from behind, and she fell down. But her frantic screaming terrified them and they sped away.

Nonetheless, she filed a complaint at Banaswadi police station. An FIR under IPC section 354 (assault or criminal force with intent to outrage the modesty of woman) was registered on Thursday, Hemant Nimbalkar, Additional Commissioner of Police (East), said.

“There is no CCTV footage of the incident, but we are checking surveillance cameras installed nearby to identify the vehicle and the men,” an officer who is part of the investigation said.

“As the victim told us that the men tried to pull her collar, they could be chain-snatchers. But going by the woman’s statement, we have opened a sexual harassment case. Additional sections under IPC will be invoked when the investigation progresses,’’ the officer added.
