Mehbooba's brother Tasaduq joins PDP

Tasaduq Mufti, son of former Jammu and Kashmir chief minster Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, formally joined the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on his father’s first death anniversary on Saturday.

“I have remained aloof from politics all my life. But today, I have joined the PDP officially and it is a very important day in my life,” Tasaduq said, addressing a gathering of PDP leaders and workers.

Tasaduq said he will work for the peace and prosperity of the state “where the common man and the VIPs will play and walk together”. “My endeavor is to work for the people and carry forward my father’s mission,” he said.   Known for his cinematography in movies like Vishal Bhardwaj’s Kaminey and Omkara, Tasaduq is an alumnus of the American Film Institute.

He won the Zee Cine and Star Screen awards for the Best Cinematographer in 2006 for Omkara.

Tasaduq, the youngest of the four siblings, had stayed away from politics prior to Mufti’s death.

He is now seen as the PDP’s likely candidate for the Anantnag parliamentary constituency, which fell vacant after Mehbooba took over as the chief minister and resigned from the Lok Sabha seat.
