Eight construction workers sustained minor injuries after the centring sheets fixed for moulding gave way at an under-construction building in Divyashree Technopark near Vydehi Hospital in Whitefield on Sunday morning.

According to the police, the injured are Pradeep, Sushanth, Hira Lal, Mantu, Badri, Jogesh, Bappi and Ganshyam. Of the eight, six sustained minor injuries and were treated as out patients, while the two who were severely injured are said to be out of danger.

The incident occurred around 6 am when the labourers were laying concrete on the first floor. The centring sheets gave way and the labourers fell down and were trapped under the debris. Hearing their screams, the other labourers rushed to the spot and managed to rescue five of them and shifted them to a private hospital, said the police.

“The Whitefield police, after receiving the information, went to the spot and found that a few other labourers were trapped under the debris. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) was alerted. It visited the spot and rescued three labourers who were shifted to the hospital and are currently out of danger. The Fire and Emergency personnel were not informed as the labourers were rescued,” said a senior police officer.

“It is suspected that the construction work was being carried out through the night. If evidence is found that the labourers had worked all night, then strict action would be taken against the construction company. For now, a case of negligence has been registered against the company,” added the officer.
