“Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has achieved a milestone not only in the field of science and technology but also in social service,” said ISRO chairman A S Kiran Kumar.

After receiving felicitation from Hassan City Municipal Council (CMC) at Kuvempu Auditorium here on Saturday Kumar, a native of Alur in the district, said ISRO is in sixth position in the world in terms of space research and technology and tops the list when it comes to social service.

“ISRO has sunk four lakh borewells to provide water to people and has conducted extensive research for pro-people programmes. It’s contribution in protecting human lives is high. Earlier, natural disasters used to claim thousands of lives but after ISRO came into existence, the rate of deaths have reduced drastically as it issues alerts of natural disasters. ISRO updates weather reports every 20 minutes,” he said.

MLA H S Prakash said, “ISRO’s contribution towards serving people has been immense and we are proud of Kiran Kumar for taking Hassan to greater heights after becoming ISRO chief.”

CMC president H S Anil Kumar, Kiran Kumar’s brother Ramesh and councillor Shreyas were also present.
