Police arrest Dalit leader, prevent rally to Vibrant Gujarat venue

The Gujarat Police on Tuesday arrested a Dalit leader from his house here to prevent him from taking out a rally to Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar, the venue of the Vibrant Gujarat summit.

Jignesh Mevani had planned the rally, along with Patidar leaders and farmers, from Adalaj in Ahmedabad to Mahatma Mandir.

“The police arrested me after I announced that I would disrupt the Vibrant Gujarat summit – the fraud of the century. Farmers’ leaders, Patidar leaders and members of the Dalit community were all arrested. If we want to stage a peaceful demonstration, there’s no scope. If we ask Modi ji, how many jobs you could create through the Vibrant Gujarat summit, there is no answer. If we ask why fertile lands of farmers are handed over to industries, then they dub us as anti-development…” said a statement on social media attributed to Mevani.
