A final year BCom student committed suicide on Wednesday following a clash between NSUI and ABVP activists.

Chakravarthi Soolibele, a right wing leader was invited as the keynote speaker and this irked the NSUI workers. The Congress affiliated students’ union had staged a protest and also filed a complaint with the police on January 6. Besides students, local Congress leaders too had participated in the protest, it is said.

On January 9, four NSUI workers had filed a complaint against Abhishek and four others with the Sringeri police. As a complaint was filed against him, Abhishek was reportedly depressed and commited suicide after writing a death note.

Abishek’s father Kalasappa Gowda has filed a complaint against NSUI activists Anjan and Ashwath, college principal and college administrative board.

As the news of Abhishek’s death spread, a large number of students boycotted classes and staged a dharna. Chikkamagaluru SP Annamalai visited the spot and convinced the students to withdraw the protest. He told them that a meeting will be held with deputy copmmissioner on January 19 to resolve the issue.
