BCCI grants amnesty to ICL 'rebels'

A total of 79 current players and 11 former Test cricketers -- including ex-captain Ajit Wadekar and off-spin legend Erapalli Prasanna -- have taken advantage of the amnesty scheme launched for those linked with the Subash Chandra-promoted rebel league, the BCCI said in a media release.

Significantly, India’s only World Cup-winning skipper Kapil Dev, the chairman of the ICL’s Executive Board, has not severed his relations with the league along with former Test stumper Kiran More.

“The BCCI, after scrutinising their requests, has written to the state associations concerned that these players are eligible to play in domestic tournaments for this year,” said BCCI secretary N Srinivasan.

The Board has already decided that those returningwill have to serve a one-year cooling off period before becoming eligible to play international cricket.
