Hamul hopes to achieve Rs 1,000-cr turnover this fiscal

'Hassan milk union records Rs 22 crore profit till Nov 2016'

Hassan Milk Producers Cooperative Union Limited (Hamul) has earned a profit of Rs 22.59 crore up to November 2016, said Hamul president H D Revanna.

Revanna told reporters here on Thursday that Hamul’s transactions for the year up to November were Rs 650 crore and that it has set a target of Rs 1,000-crore turnover till the end of March 2017.

“In an effort to bail out dairy farmers, the milk union is paying an additional Rs 1.50 more per litre from the month of October. The amount has already been remitted to the accounts of the farmers from December,” he said.

Makes foray into Hyd

With Hamul marketing Nandini brand milk in Hyderabad from October, around 80,000 milk and curd sachets are being sold every day. Revanna said this would be increased to one lakh litres by December 2017. He said there are plans to sell paneer, peda, toned milk and ghee too.

“As compared to last year, milk production has come down by 50,000 litres. At present, 6.75 lakh litres is produced in the district every day. Around 1.20 lakh litres are being despatched to Assam, Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir and other parts of the country,” he said.

Hamul milk to Coffee Day

Revanna said Hamul has entered into an agreement with Cafe Coffee Day to supply three lakh litres of ultra-high temperature (UHT) processing milk from January. He said this would be gradually increased to six lakh litres in the coming days. Around eight lakh litres of milk is being supplied to anganwadi children of Andhra Pradesh, he said.

Revanna said private companies are selling around 10 lakh litres of milk everyday in Bengaluru, and Hamul has submitted a proposal to the government seeking permission to sell Nandini Milk in the city. If it does not respond, Hamul would approach the court, he said.

Revanna said Hamul has appealed to Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) to allot 14 acres of land identified for setting up a mega dairy at a cost of Rs 320 crore. “Though KMF is ready, the district in-charge minister is creating hurdles in clearing it. I have spoken to the chief minister in this regard,” Revanna said.
