Last Updated 12 January 2017, 19:41 IST

The state BJP on Thursday registered its opposition with the Centre to the Karnataka government’s plan to introduce new textbooks for classes 1 to 10 from the academic year 2017-18.

A delegation of BJP leaders  met Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar and submitted a memorandum, requesting the Centre to prevail upon the state government not to rush through introduction of new textbooks from the coming academic year.

Javadekar was attending a National Youth Day event at Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana, a deemed university at Jigani on the outskirts of Bengaluru.

The delegation told the minister that the new textbooks are not yet ready and, it will be impractical to introduce them from the academic year 2017-18. Besides, the textbooks need to be prepared in consultation with the National Council for Educational Research and Training and meet the parameters of the National Curriculum Framework, which is not being done, it stated.
