The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has served notices on nearly 300 property owners for violating its zoning regulations and functioning without trade licence, subsequent to a public notice it had issued in December 2016.

On the directions of Palike Commissioner Manjunath Prasad, the zonal joint commissioners along with revenue officers have started cracking down on commercial establishments operating without trade licence and also the owners of residential properties, which are being unauthorisedly used for non-residential purposes.

In Bommanahalli zone, about 2,000 commercial establishments operating from residential areas have been identified and 156 notices have been issued, asking the owners to shut down the operations or face action. About 30 notices have been issued in South zone and more than 100 in East zone, Palike officials said.

In a few zones such as Yelahanka, awareness on the violations is being created among the owners of commercial establishments before issuing notices to them.

“We are informing them about the public notice and violations as most of them seem to be unaware of it. We will give them a week’s time to shut down the operations. If they do not, then we will issue them individual notices. The final action would be closing the establishments flouting zonal regulations," said an official from Yelahanka Palike sources said that they will take the help of the police, if required, to shut down the shops.
