Buzz over amateur artiste's song rendition

Saleem Javed, a sportsman and a PR specialist, has created a virtual sensation by getting as many as 2 lakh views in five days for his cover song ‘Kateyonda Helide’ from the movie Kirik Party.

Javed told DH that he rendered the cover song as a tribute to the Kirik Party cast and crew. The original score has been composed by B Ajaneesh Loknath with lyrics penned by Rakshith Shetty and sung by Varun Ramachandran.

Javed said he could not resist the idea of singing the cover song after watching the movie which reminded him of his days at MGM College, Udupi. Javed lent his voice to the song that goes on for one minute and 56 seconds. He recorded the song at Riddhi creations, Udupi with Jayant Aital helming the camera and Vivek Mallya editing the video. Javed said he was overwhelmed to see the response to his cover song.

Born and raised in Malpe near Udupi, he has been a karate champion winning medals at national and international events. He won the gold medal at the Inter-continental Karate championship held in Delhi in 2010 and also an individual gold in Asian championship in Dhaka in 2011. He learnt karate from Prabhakar Kunder of Malpe.

Javed was active in the cultural circuit in college and it was here that he honed his singing abilities.

For a small duration of three months he also took basic Hindustani classical music classes from Ravikiran in Manipal and also worked as a Public Relations Officer in Manipal University before he flew to Dubai to carry on with his PR job in another firm.

Javed is not new to rendering Hindi film songs and remaking cover singles as he has already produced 12 covers of which, ‘Ishara’ and ‘hamari adhuri kahani’, are his favourites. However, having retired from karate, he now wants to pursue his passion for singing and hopes to be one of the best playback singers in the film industry.
