Gang stabs postman to death, injures his friend

A 22-year-old postman was killed while his friend sustained injuries when a group of four attacked them near Saraswathipuram in Nandini Layout on Saturday night.

Pradeep Kumar, a resident of Saraswathipuram, was working as a postman on contract basis, said the police. Around 7.30 pm, Kumar and his friend Venkatesh, a history-sheeter at the Mahalakshmi Layout police station, went to Saraswathipuram to watch oxen and cows jumping over fire, at Sankranthi festival celebrations.

As the duo were watching the cows jumping over the fire, four men came there in a car and stabbed them. Kumar and Venkatesh sustained injuries. As the crowd gathered, the assailants fled the spot. The public alerted the police, who shifted the duo to a nearby private hospital. Kumar succumbed to his injuries on Sunday morning.

Venkatesh, whose condition is stable, told the police that some of his friends had murdered a certain Madhu in Someshwaranagar recently. In retaliation, Madhu’s friends had attacked Venkatesh and, Kumar who was with him, the police said. The Nandini Layout police have registered a case and are on the lookout for the assailants.
