A 32-year-old woman was killed after she tried to alight from a moving train which had slowed down near KR Puram on Wednesday morning.

The deceased, Lakshmi Dorwari, was an electrical engineer with Larsen & Toubro in the city. Her husband, Dr S R Srikanth, is an orthopaedician in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. She was on her way to work when the incident occurred, the police said.

On Wednesday, around 9 am, Lakshmi tried to alight from the moving train which slowed down near KR Puram at Baiyappanahalli. She chose to get off at that spot as her workplace is at a walkable distance from there.

When Lakshmi got down, she slipped on the track and sustained severe head injuries.
The other passengers stopped the train and took Lakshmi by the same train to Banaswadi.
The Railway police, who were informed, rushed the victim to Bowring Hospital where she was declared dead on arrival. The Railway police have registered a case.

The spot where the accident occurred is not a designated train stop, but the train slows down for a few seconds for traffic clearance, said a senior police officer, adding that this is the time when many commuters jump out to rush to the nearest KR Puram bus stop and to their work places in the vicinity.
