Prajavani quiz contest: Bengaluru school gets top prize

 Saint Paul’s English School, JP Nagar, Bengaluru, triumphed in the finals of the Prajavani Quiz Championship here on Saturday.

As many as 10 teams from different zones had made it to the finals in the state-level quiz competition, which was held at the Jnana Jyothi Auditorium on the Central College campus.

The St Paul’s School team from Bengaluru zone, which comprised Chandrachud Singh and Sucheth, scored 80 marks and emerged champions. In the first three rounds, the team had lagged behind other contestants. However, in the fourth round they gained momentum and scored well.

In the fifth and final round too, which was the buzzer round, the team outshone others by giving their answers confidently and correctly.

The team from Lions English High School, Sirsi, stood second by scoring 60 marks. The team of Prajwal Yaji and Chinmay Hegde was ahead of other teams in the first three rounds but it could not maintain the winning pace in the last two rounds and was pushed to the second position.

The team of Aditya and Anup from United Academy High School, Hassan, stood third by scoring 30 marks. The team from Sharada Vidyalaya, Mangaluru, comprising Pradyumna and Pannaga and, Suha Syed and H K Aishwarya from St Mary’s Girls’ School, Tumakuru, shared the fourth position by scoring 25 marks each.

Actor Chethan, hockey Olympian Arjun Halappa and Syndicate Bank general manager Steven Vas presented the awards. The champions got Rs 50,000, the runners-up
Rs 30,000 and third prize winner Rs 10,000 and the fourth-placed teams Rs 5,000.

Quizmaster Raghav Chakravarthy said the participants performed extremely well. “The questions were quite difficult but they were firm on answering all the questions. The response from across the state was a way better than our expectation,” said Chakravarthy.
