“Janastra”, a civic agency working for the rehabilitation of slumdwellers, carried out an awareness campaign in the City on Sunday against the use of liquor and money to buy votes from the economically weaker section of society.
“Luring voters with liquor and money has already begun in the slums of Indiranagar and other parts of the City. Some accept the offer in apathy, others utilise it as an opportunity to make some livelihood,” said Aditya, Secretary of Janastra.
The organisation had invited all the three major political parties to promise in writing before the people, but received no response from the politicians. “Only one representative from the JD(S) came, but he too refused to sign,” said Aditya.
