Worker electrocuted at building site

A construction worker from Raichur was electrocuted at an under-construction building at Health Layout in Annapurneshwari Nagar on Saturday. The work of laying pipes for water and power connection was in progress on the ground floor when the incident occurred. Sanjeev, 32, a resident of Madanayakanahalli, was carrying some materials from the second floor. While getting down, on the first floor, he accidentally touched a live wire and fell down. He was taken to a hospital but died on the way. Police have booked the owner and contractor of the building.

Hit-and-run: biker traced Police have traced the bike rider who had absconded after running over a retired schoolteacher near Kidwai Institute of Oncology on Hosur Road, south Bengaluru, on Saturday evening. Sunil G S, 35, a resident of Marenahalli in Vijayanagar, had sped away after knocking down Rayappa N Murali, 60, a native of Kottur, Ballari district.

Rayappa had brought his ailing wife for treatment at Kidwai hospital. The couple alighted from an autorickshaw near Hosur Road and were crossing the road when Sunil ran Rayappa over. Rayappa sustained severe head injuries and died in a hospital later.

A security guard at the hospital had noted down the registration number of Sunil’s motorcycle and shared it with police. Police traced him after sharing the motorcycle details with the transport department, Kumar H M, a police official attached to Wilson Garden traffic police station, told DH. “Sunil has also sustained injuries in the accident. He will be formally arrested soon,” he added.

Bikes, jewellery seizedPolice have recovered 10 stolen motorcycles and Rs 14 lakh worth of gold jewellery from two habitual offenders. Kumar, 31, a resident of Andrahalli main road, and Ravi Kumar, 29, from Huliyurdurga hobli in Kunigal taluk, Tumakuru district, were arrested near Sumanahalli bus stop, north Bengaluru, when they were reportedly trying to sell a stolen motorcycle.

Police said the suspects had used duplicate keys to steal motorcycles parked outside houses in Byadarahalli, Tavarekere, Vijayanagar, KG Nagar, Rajagopalanagar and Kamakshipalya. The men had been jailed for stealing a vehicle in Kunigal and were released recently.
