15 years on, Rajghat set for makeover
In several major enhancements to the Rajghat that houses the Mahatma Gandhi memorial, visitors will get to read a 157-word profile on the father of the nation and a 131-word description of the memorial.

The summaries, displayed in Hindi and English at all three gates, is one of the many improvements to the memorial made on Gandhi’s 69th death anniversary, 15 years after a similar spruce up.

Thirty eternally relevant thoughts of the Mahatma (Amrit Vachan), engraved on marble,  have been displayed on the granite stone pedestal at the spot of Gandhi’s cremation to enlighten the numerous domestic and foreign visitors. Existing lights at the memorial complex have been replaced by energy-efficient LEDs. These lights save 60,000 kWh of power annually.

The facelift also includes solar panels that would generate 52 KW of electricity, more security cameras and a control room for the security agencies guarding the complex.
