Convener of Suvarna Vidya Chetana organisation P C Malleshaiah said that Makkala Mane centres have been opened to empower government schools. He was speaking at the annual day celebrations of the Government Girls’ Higher Primary School and Makkala Mane in the town recently. With the rise in fascination towards private schools, there is no demand for government schools and the number of students is steadily decreasing. Keeping this in mind, Suvarna Vidya Chetana has opened Makkala Mane centres in five schools in the taluk.

Parents believe that their children can get good pre-primary education in these centres. This is a unique initiative and the aim is to use these schools as models to demonstrate to the government the effectiveness of the experiment in saving government schools. Gram panchayat member Geetha who inaugurated the programme, said of late, parents have begun to feel that value education is being imparted by government schools.

Officials who are in top posts have also studied in government schools, she said. Gram panchayat member H R Ranganath commended the decision to start Makkala Mane centres to save government schools. The state government should open Makkala Mane centres in all government schools, he urged. He also pledged support to the centre opened in the Huliyar school.

School Development Monitoring Committee member Lokesh presided over the programme. Members of the school development and monitoring committee, Head teacher of MPS School Shankarappa and others were present. Prizes were distributed to students who won various events in the sports meet. Students presented cultural programmes on the occasion.
